The Photography Journey

From The Heart : What 2016 did to me & 3 things I will take along with me...

// Unpublished - January 2017

It still feels very fresh.. the day I decided I wanted to take the plunge.. Become a Photographer and run a Business.

Boy, if I knew then what I know now about doing both.. I would absolutely think that girl was crazyyy!!!

That was about 10 years ago and some days, I wish that I'd have brought the same courage and braveness that 20 year old me had. But that also came without knowing really what I was getting into.

What the heck. Who really knows what they're getting into 99% of the time...

One day, I got a text about an underwater photoshoot - and well, I didn't really learn how to swim. I would get in a pool but only up until where I could reach the floor. Having said that, we brought an assistant aka Hazel just in case and did it anyway. It totally jump started our year and will be one to remember!

When a dear friend said they would be bringing their fur babies in a shoot - I wasn't sure how to feel about it. But by the end of our weekend with them, I have fallen head over heels with their babies and they have become our very first fur-besties(?)

I had been hesitant to book in a destination wedding or destination anything because I like to be prepared. I like to know the work we'll be doing.. what kind of light situation will we be working with.. what equipment should I bring.. I like to have everything prepared before showing up to shoot anything at all.

But slowly through the year... I decided to let go of all that.. to challenge myself more and to hopefully grow as a photographer. I wanted to put myself in the unknown.. and allowed our clients to pick locations that meant more to them as supposed to having a perfect backdrop or expected lighting.

I learned a thing or two... or three.

1. That people shine when you put them in their happy place.

2. People connect. naturally.

3. And if I step back a little and allow magic to happen... 99% of the time, it does.

I am very grateful for every opportunity to create images and photographs for you and your loved ones. And if there's anything that I would love for you guys to keep doing with me, it's this - please do keep sharing your stories & your ideas with me. I love being inspired by them and I'd love nothing more than to work together with you in creating these photographs for you guys to keep... to enjoy daily and look back into 10, 20, 30 years from now.
